Say Hello to DJShawnd and Krisi
With over 40 years of experience under his belt, Shawn Adams, aka DJShawnD, has become a local celebrity. Being noted as "Bloomington’s BEST disc jockey", there is no way that you can go wrong with Amazing Music DJ, Photography & Video.
Since 1982, while attending Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, Shawn started by playing at campus parties and various private parties. Shawn decided to turn a hobby into a business, and Amazing Music was born. In 1991, Shawn got a lucky break and through a chance meeting, he met the owner of B97, WBWB, the local radio station in Bloomington, Indiana. He ended up getting a a prime spot on the radio and within a year, was the most popular radio jock at B97.
While working at B97, Shawn simultaneously worked at a nightclub called The Ramada Inn. He had been working at the club when it was named Diamond Lils, then The Nightlight, and eventually became the Ramada Inn. Once again, Shawn was the most popular DJ at the nightclub. People from Bloomington and all the surrounding cities would stand in line from 4 pm to 4 am, seven nights a week, to try to get into the club and have a great night out, and listen to DJShawnD spin the best music in town.
Eventually, life-changing events started to happen. Shawn's father passed away, and he decided to leave The Ramada. Then his best friend, who was the DJ at Hooligans, which was a popular campus bar in downtown Bloomington, asked Shawn to fill in for him for one night. A one-night fill-in turned into a full-time DJ gig because Shawn's friend left school and moved to Florida. At this time, Shawn was juggling his shift at B97 and his shift at Hooligan's. Now, fast forward to a chance meeting with his future wife, Krisi.
Krisi came to Bloomington in 1987 by way of Dallas, Texas, to attend Indiana University to study Photography. Around 1990, her junior year, when she was finally old enough to actually get into the bars legally, she started going to Hooligans. Suddenly, a pattern started to form. DJShawnD was there every weekend, and by chance, Krisi was there every weekend to see him DJ. It seemed that a friendship was forming. By the time Krisi graduated in 1991, Shawn and Krisi were just like Forrest Gump described it... "like peas and carrots". Best Friends.
In 1991, Krisi graduated from IU Bloomington with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. She ended up getting a job at Chadon Photography and worked there as the Head Photographer for a year, only to realize that she wanted to break out on her own. She told Shawn what she wanted to do, and his response was just like NIKE... "Just do it!"
That is exactly what she did. The day she quit Chadon Photography, Shawn and Krisi sat at Hardee's and split a peach shake and scribbled down a plan on a napkin. They discussed what it would take for her to strike out on her own. On that day, in 1992, Amazing Music DJ, Photography & Video was born, and Krisi was officially a professional photographer and videographer. However, her photography career started much earlier than that. It has been told from old family stories, she had a camera in her hand since she was five years old, and it's been in her hand ever since. To this day, everywhere she goes, she sees a potential photograph. Eventually, Shawn quit B97 and Hooligan's to concentrate solely on Amazing Music DJ, Photography & Video.
Since 1992, Amazing Music DJ, Photography & Video has played at every venue in Bloomington and the surrounding cities. Not only have we performed in Bloomington, Indiana, but we have had our share of travels all over the United States. Including traveling throughout the Midwest to Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Then through the Eastern border to Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and West Virginia. We have ventured as far south as Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. We have even traveled as far West as Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, Utah, and the state of Washington.
You would think that with all of that traveling that we would be ready to settle down and take a break, but that is so far from the truth. In all these many years of operation, we have even taken Amazing Music DJ, Photography & Video international and have played overseas in The Bahamas, The Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, The US Virgin Islands, St. Maarten, and Antigua. We also ventured to Mexico and traveled to Acapulco, Cancun, and Puerto Vallarta. Although we have experienced extensive travels with our talents, we have only scratched the surface. There is so much more of the world we can't wait to visit and spread joy with our talents.
Still, many are familiar with Amazing Music DJ, Photography & Video from the fraternity and sorority parties that take place throughout the school year. Among the many campuses that we travel to, we perform quite frequently at Indiana University, in Bloomington, Indiana, and Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, as well as all of the major universities in the surrounding areas and states.
Don’t think that the popularity stops there, Amazing Music DJ, Photography & Video is pretty popular with the younger kids as well. We perform at all the local elementary schools, junior highs, and high schools. Not only are we popular in Bloomington, but Amazing Music DJ, Photography & Video is also very popular at many of the schools in Illinois and other surrounding states. The list is quite plentiful. Furthermore, we can't count out our older generation. DJShawnD and Amazing Music DJ, Photography & Video enjoy performing and entertaining at the local retirement and assisted living facilities as well.
Amazing Music DJ, Photography & Video is an avid supporter of our youth. So much so that in 1992, we established the not-for-profit organization called the DJShawnD B.U.G. Club (the Bring Up your Grades Club). This organization is designed to give positive encouragement to the youth in our community and communities all over the United States, as well as all around the world. We want them to form a positive attitude about school and education.
To finance our venture, we sell DJShawnD T-shirts and DJ bowties. Then, in turn, the proceeds go to buy backpacks, school supplies, and any other age-appropriate toys and gifts, or any kind of fun stuff for kids. To become a member of the B.U.G. Club, all students and kids have to do is send us their report card with good grades or grade improvement. Any student from kindergarten through eighth grade is eligible. Visit our B.U.G. To date, we have sent prizes all over the US and as far as Australia, Germany, and England.
So to sum up this adventure, who would have thought that in the summer of 1991, Shawn and Krisi, two crazy creative kids, would find each other, become the best of friends and then find out that they enjoyed each other's company enough to stay together and be married for the last 34 years. Not only that, but individually, each one loves their profession so much that they decided to put their two talents together to create the ultimate in entertainment.
The moral to this story is this: When you love what you do and who you do it with, the work you do is not work. It is a passion.
